Mangalore, Mar 23: The two new leaders of Janata Dal (Secular) in Dakshina Kannada - B Nagaraj Shetty and M G Hegde - who had joined the party recently have tendered their resignation to their party posts.
The former BJP leader Mr Shetty was serving as the State vice president of JD(S), while former Congress leader Mr Hegde was serving as the Secretary of the JD(S).
The development comes in the wake of the recent move of JD(S) State Party President H D Kumaraswamy suspending the party's district minorities' cell chief D M Aslam and District General Secretary Shashiraj Shetty for allegedly involving in anti-party activities.
Both Mr Shetty and Mr Hegde had condemned the suspension and had urged the party leadership to revoke the same.
Confirming his resignation to the party post Mr Shetty said that the local leaders are not accepting them and are not allowing the JD(S) to grow under their leadership.
“All those who had toiled hard during the elections are being sidelined. JD(S) president H D Kumaraswamy is a gem of a person. I do not want him to face awkward situation in Dakshina Kannada. So I have decided to tender resignation.”
“I have not made my mind to join any of the political party. I have been getting invitation from the KJP, BSR Congress, BJP and the Congress. I wanted to be in one political party till my death. I am fed up with the politics,” he said.
M G Hegde too has confirmed his resignation.
