Mangaluru, May 23: Abdul Sattar, who has already earned a reputation in Bantwal taluk for being honest and straightforward through his selfless and heroic deeds, has once again proved himself worthy of the title 'Netravati veera' as he is known among the locals.
On Wednesday, after plying three women hailing from Nandavar, from B C Road to Pane Mangaluru in his auto-rickshaw, he noticed that they had left behind a bag full of ornaments, cash and important documents after alighting from the rickshaw.
Abdul Sattar, who hails from Goodinabali village near B C Road, on the outskirts of the city, saw the bag when he returned after offering prayers at a masjid in Pane Mangaluru. Immediately going through its contents to determine the identity and whereabouts of the owner of the bag, he began looking about for the women who had left it behind.
Around the same time, the women had begun searching for Abdul Sattar's auto rickshaw and found him along their way. After confirming that the bag was indeed theirs, he handed it over safely, and was again praised for his honesty. Despite their request to accept a small reward for his honesty, he politely refused to do so.
It could be recalled that earlier Sattar had dived into the Nethravati river at Goodinabali and saved the lives of a mother and her child, who had attempted to commit suicide by drowning. Kolya swamiji had then honoured him for this brave and selfless act and also gave him the title of 'Netravati veera'.
With several such deeds, Sattar has earned praise and respect among the locals for his selflessness and honest character.
