New building of Kavoor police station inaugurated

Mangalore, Jun 3: The new buildings of Kavoor police station and Mangalore North (Suratkal) traffic police station was inaugurated by Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai in two separate programmes on Tuesday.

Speaking after inaugurating the new Kavoor police station under Mangalore City Police Commissionerate limits in a programme organised by Karnataka State Police Department and Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation Limited (KSPHC) on Tuesday, he said that the rate of crime in the city increased with the growth in its size and population, and basic infrastructure was required to control it. The new building will help the police department become more efficient in their duties, he said.

Dedicating the new building to the police department, he said that people 's participation and cooperation was also necessary for the police to check crime in the district.

On the occasion, Mangalore City Police Commissioner R Hithendra said that the state police department had been sanctioned the construction of 11,000 police buildings in the state, out of which 200 buildings had been sanctioned for Dakshina Kannada district, including new buildings for an ACP office, police station and traffic police station in Panambur area under the Commissionerate limits.

He said that the construction of a new building for Mangalore Rural police station was also essential, while adding that the new police building should help improve the efficiency of the police department.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Fisheries and Youth Services Abhaychandra Jain requested the deputation of additional police officers to Moodbidri police station as the area was a sensitive one.

In his presidential address, Mangalore North MLA Moidin Bava acknowledged the lack of police personnel in police stations at Kavoor and surrounding areas and assured of resolving all problems in connection with the police department in his assembly constituency, to help maintain efficiency of the police department.
DK Superintendent of Police Dr S D Sharanappa, DCP (Law & Order) Dr K V Jagadish, DCP (Crime & Traffic) Vishnuvardhana N and others were present.

Will end Karnataka leadership confusion after talks with top leaders: Kharge

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday announced that he will convene a high-level meeting in New Delhi with senior leaders — including Rahul Gandhi, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar — to resolve the escalating leadership turmoil in Karnataka and “put an end to the confusion.”

Kharge said the discussions would focus on the way forward for the ruling party, as rumours of a possible leadership change continue to swirl. The speculation has intensified after the Congress government crossed the halfway mark of its five-year term on November 20, reviving talk of an alleged 2023 “power-sharing agreement” between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar.

“After reaching Delhi, I will call three or four important leaders and hold discussions. Once we talk, we will decide how to move ahead and end this confusion,” Kharge told reporters in Bengaluru, according to PTI.

When asked specifically about calling Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar to Delhi, he responded: “Certainly, we should call them. We will discuss with them and settle the issue.”

He confirmed that Rahul Gandhi, the Chief Minister, the Deputy Chief Minister and other senior members would be part of the deliberations. “After discussing with everyone, a decision will be made,” he said.

Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah held a separate strategy meeting at his Bengaluru residence with ministers and leaders seen as his close confidants, including G. Parameshwara, Satish Jarkiholi, H.C. Mahadevappa, K. Venkatesh and K.N. Rajanna.
Signalling calm, the Chief Minister told reporters, “Will go to Delhi if the high command calls.”

Shivakumar echoed a similar stance, saying he too would head to the national capital if summoned by the party leadership.
