Raksha Ramaiah is new chief of Karnataka Youth Congress; Nalapad Haris bags highest votes

Bengaluru, Feb 4: Raksha Ramaiah has formally been chosen as the Karnataka Youth Congress (KYC) president. The KYC elections were held in January 2021, nearly 10 months after the post fell vacant in March 2020 when Basanagouda Badarli’s term ended. 

Ramaiah, who is 35 years old, is senior Congress leader and former minister MR Seetharam’s son.  

In the meantime, the All-India Congress Committee (AICC) was in a dilemma whether to conduct a poll or to appoint the Youth Congress chief.  The contenders for the post included Mithun Rai, Nalapad Haris and H S Manjunath. While Rai withdrew his nomination, top party leaders, it was a straight fight between Mr Ramaiah and Mr Nalapad. 

Even though Mr Nalapad bagged highest votes (64203) he was disqualified by the Fame Committee thanks to his involvement in an assault case. Hence, Raksha Ramaiah, who bagged second highest votes (57271) was made president.
