Udupi, Nov 6: Police have arrested ten fishermen from Andhra Pradesh and seized one boat on the charge of indulging in illegal bull trawl fishing in deep sea around ten nautical miles away from Gangolli in Udupi district.
Police said on Friday that two boats were engaged in this illegal activity but only one could be confiscated.
Assistant Director of Fisheries Department Sumalatha, said that higher ups will be informed after receiving a report from the Coastal Security Force.
In bull trawling or pair trawling, a net is tied between two big boats and is dragged (trawled) to catch fish. The government has already banned these types of fishing. Despite the ban, some fishermen continue to fishing, police added.
