Mangalore, November 17: Mangalore celebrated Eid-ul-Azha with traditional gaiety and fervor as thousands gathered at various masjids in the city for early-morning Eid prayers and participate in the sermons, where Qateebs urged the believers to follow the supreme sacrifice of Hazrath Ibrahim.

At Eidgah on Light House hill thousands of Muslims took part in the Eid Namaz offered under the leadership of Mangalore Qazi Twaqa Ahmed Musliyar and listened to the traditional sermon.

Rains had stayed away facilitating the smooth conduct of Eid proceedings and large number of volunteers made arrangements for the surging Namazis, who offered the prayer at 8am.

Eid ul Adha prayers were also offered at Jamia Masjid Kudroli, where hundreds of devotees assembled at the renovated mosque, formerly known as 'Jod Palli', and participated in Eid Salah at 7:45 am.

In the absence of Mufti Abdul Mannan, the Pesh Imam of the mosque, Moulana Amir led the Eid Salah and delivered the Eid khutba.

In his sermon, he recalled the advices given by Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) during his significant Hajj khutba. He said that Eid is an occasion for Muslims to realize that they should be united in all circumstances. He said that although Eid is an occasion for Muslims to celebrate and be happy, they should not over rejoice and cross the limits of celebration. “In Islam, both in times of happiness and grief, we have been asked to maintain a balanced approach”, he said. He also brefly mentioned the key aspects of carrying out sacrifices.

Those gathered exchanged hugs and greetings after the Khutba.

At Masjidunnor in Hampankatta, Khateeb Azeez Maulavi called upon Muslims to shun differences and strengthen unity.

“Even great Imams had differences of opinion but they did not quarrel among themselves for silly reasons. They also had great admiration and respect for the opinions of each other, Maulavi pointed out.

Urging Muslims to follow the precedent of these noble people, he said, “We should respect each other on the basis of our belief. We are all one because we believe in one god, one prophet and one scripture. We also turn our face toward one Qibla.”

He also dwelt in great detail on the sacrifices made by Hazrat Ibrahim and exhorted the Ummah to follow the ideals propagated by him.

He also led the Eid prayer and greeted Eid Mubarak to hundreds of devotees gathered at the venue.

Maulana Mohammad Ali led the Eid prayer in Kachi Masjid in Bunder and delivered Qutba.

Highlighting the importance of unity, he said the differences within the community is the main reason for the hapless condition of Muslims.

Mangaluru, Dec 2: Mangaluru International Airport responded to a medical emergency late on Monday night. Air India Express flight IX 522, travelling from Riyadh to Thiruvananthapuram, was diverted to Mangaluru Airport after a passenger in his late 30s experienced a medical emergency on board.

The Airport’s Operations Control Centre received an alert regarding the passenger’s health condition. The airport activated its emergency response protocol, mobilising the airport medical team and coordinating with stakeholders including CISF, immigration, and customs.

Upon landing, airport medical personnel attended to the passenger, assessed his condition, and arranged to shift him to a local tertiary-care hospital for further treatment. The passenger’s relatives accompanied the passenger, who incidentally received necessary medical care on board, which helped stabilise the situation.

Following the handling of the emergency, the flight departed for Thiruvananthapuram at 2:05 am on Tuesday.

"We appreciate the cooperation of all parties involved, and this incident reaffirms our ongoing commitment to prioritising passenger safety and readiness to respond to unforeseen emergencies with professionalism and care," the Airport spokesperson said.

Bengaluru, Nov 27: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s camp is reportedly on alert as the Congress leadership tussle in the state intensifies, particularly amid speculation over the potential promotion of Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. Siddaramaiah is said to be in a “wait-and-watch” mode after admitting to “confusion” earlier this week and urging the party to “put a full stop” to it.

Sources say his supporters are ready to act if senior leaders — including party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi — give any indication of backing Shivakumar. If the party insists on a leadership change, Siddaramaiah’s camp has a list of alternatives, underscoring the deep rift between the two leaders. One possible candidate is Home Minister G. Parameshwara, a Siddaramaiah loyalist and influential Dalit leader.

The strategy was reportedly finalized at a meeting led by PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi, another Siddaramaiah supporter, who stressed that Delhi leaders need to resolve the issue. Kharge and the Gandhis are expected to meet soon, after which Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar may be summoned to Delhi.

Shivakumar has largely stayed non-confrontational, publicly endorsing Siddaramaiah and downplaying speculation about his own ambitions. However, he has made pointed comments emphasizing the importance of honoring promises, directed at Siddaramaiah.

The feud traces back to the 2023 state election, when Siddaramaiah was chosen as Chief Minister while Shivakumar, who led the party’s campaign, was made Deputy CM and state party chief — a departure from the Congress’ usual “one post per person” rule.

There were also hints of a prior understanding that Siddaramaiah would step down midway through the term. As the halfway mark passed last week, Shivakumar-aligned lawmakers have ramped up pressure on the party for a leadership change, with Shivakumar himself hinting at stepping down as state party chief to pursue the top job.

Udupi: The pontiffs of Sri Paryaya Puttige Mutt, the sacred seat of Jagadguru Shrimad Madhvacharya Moola Samsthanam, have submitted a proposal to the Prime Minister seeking comprehensive development for Udupi district.

Proposal for International Airport

A key request is the establishment of an international airport. Highlighting that around 1,000 acres of land are available and suitable, the pontiffs noted that the existing Mangalore Airport provides limited international connectivity. They suggested the airport be developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) or as a Greenfield Airport to boost trade, education, healthcare, and spiritual tourism.

Metro and Rapid Transit Connectivity

The proposal also calls for Metro Rail or Rapid Transit between Mangaluru and Udupi. The 55 km coastal stretch experiences heavy daily commuter traffic, causing congestion. The district administration is ready to prepare an initial project report for a Mass Rapid Transit corridor and requested inclusion under national urban mobility programmes to ensure safe, green, and time-efficient regional transport.

Port and Coastal Development

The pontiffs urged the development of an international-standard port with a cruise terminal along Udupi’s coast. They also requested fast-tracking of pending coastal tourism projects and revising Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms to encourage sustainable infrastructure and hospitality investment.

IT, AI and Technological Infrastructure

Support was sought for an IT and AI Innovation Park with incubation facilities under Digital India and Startup India initiatives. The proposal also emphasized the need for strengthened data security and cloud computing infrastructure to boost India’s technological independence.

Sports and Education Initiatives

The pontiffs requested national sports status for Kambala, along with financial and infrastructure support. They also sought the establishment of an AIIMS in Udupi, a new IIT campus, and approval for an IIM to promote higher education in the district.

Representation to the Prime Minister

Sri Sugunendra Tirtha Pontiff and Sri Sushrendra Tirtha Swamiji represented the pontiffs in submitting the comprehensive development proposal to the Prime Minister during his recent visit.
