Gold, cash, stolen from lecturer's house

Puttur, March 23: Some unidentified thieves struck at a house on Monday and decamped with gold jewellery and cash worth Rs 8.89 lakh.



The house belongs to Sridhar, a lecturer at Kasaba Junior College at Kallimar village in Kasba of Puttur taluk.



The incident took place sometime between 9.30 pm on Monday and early hours of Tuesday when Sridhar was away on evaluation duty at Mysore.



His wife Shailaja had gone to spend the night at their neighbours' place as Sridhar was away.



Sniffer dog squad and finger print experts were brought to the spot.



K Manjaiah, PI, Puttur Rural station is investigating the case under the supervision of Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police (SP), Dr Subrhamanyeshwar Rao, Puttur ASP Rohini Katoch and additional SP, K S Prabhakar.

Mangaluru: Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy C H has warned of strict action against individuals spreading rumours and attempting to create insecurity within the Muslim community and fuel hatred between Hindus and Muslims through social media.

Referring to a recent social media post alleging that police personnel had entered a masjid premises to check whether beef was being cooked, the commissioner said miscreants were attempting to push their communal agenda. 

“A group of people, both from Mangaluru and abroad, are trying hard to spread rumours. For the past 10 days, they have been attempting to rake up old issues, highlight routine matters as controversies, or fabricate news altogether,” he said.

He reiterated that any such attempts to disturb communal harmony would invite legal action. “Cases will be registered and the accused will be brought to book,” he stated.
