Minister promises necessary furniture, sports equipment, eco-clubs to government schools

Mangalore, July 5: Within two years, the state government would provide all necessary furniture and sports equipment to all the government schools, which currently lacks facilities, said District-in-charge Minister Krishna J Palemar.

Speaking after inaugurating 'Shaalegagi Navu Neevu', a new programme of Karnataka State Government, at Government Higher Primary School in Munchuru village near here on Wednesday, he said that facilities and good atmosphere in schools are very important for budding talents.

The minister said that the State Government's progrommes have so far succeeded in reducing the number of school drop-outs in the district considerably. “Around 3.60 lakh school-going children are there in Dakshina Kannada currently. In the past two years, 33 government schools have been opened and as many as 533 class-rooms have been built at the cost of Rs 19 crore in the district. 28 high schools have been newly opened in the district in last three years spending nearly Rs 12 crore,” he said.

Calling upon the parents to send their children to Government schools instead of pouring hard earned money on private education institutions, Mr Palemar said that the government schools are now competing with their private counterpart.

The minister said that the Government has decided to establish as many as 2080 and 1800 eco-clubs in higher primary and high schools respectively across the state to create awareness about environment among students.

On the occasion, outgoing Deputy Director of Public Instructions of Dakshina Kannada C Chamegowda was given a warm felicitation.

Zilla Panchayat Socail Justice Stating Committee President Janardana Gowda and new DDPI Moses Jayashekhar were present among others.

Will end Karnataka leadership confusion after talks with top leaders: Kharge

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday announced that he will convene a high-level meeting in New Delhi with senior leaders — including Rahul Gandhi, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar — to resolve the escalating leadership turmoil in Karnataka and “put an end to the confusion.”

Kharge said the discussions would focus on the way forward for the ruling party, as rumours of a possible leadership change continue to swirl. The speculation has intensified after the Congress government crossed the halfway mark of its five-year term on November 20, reviving talk of an alleged 2023 “power-sharing agreement” between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar.

“After reaching Delhi, I will call three or four important leaders and hold discussions. Once we talk, we will decide how to move ahead and end this confusion,” Kharge told reporters in Bengaluru, according to PTI.

When asked specifically about calling Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar to Delhi, he responded: “Certainly, we should call them. We will discuss with them and settle the issue.”

He confirmed that Rahul Gandhi, the Chief Minister, the Deputy Chief Minister and other senior members would be part of the deliberations. “After discussing with everyone, a decision will be made,” he said.

Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah held a separate strategy meeting at his Bengaluru residence with ministers and leaders seen as his close confidants, including G. Parameshwara, Satish Jarkiholi, H.C. Mahadevappa, K. Venkatesh and K.N. Rajanna.
Signalling calm, the Chief Minister told reporters, “Will go to Delhi if the high command calls.”

Shivakumar echoed a similar stance, saying he too would head to the national capital if summoned by the party leadership.
