Vitla, October 25: Vitla police on Wednesday raided a secretly-run illegal slaughter house and arrested three persons.
Along with the accused, the police took into custody chunks of beef, lethal instruments used to slaughter cattle and two-wheeler used to transport beef to other places.
The prime accused Ichu alias Isubu (30), son of Abdullah from Thotukere in Kolnad, Aboobaker (42), son of Mohammed from Kolambe Dasabettu, and Abdul Khader alias Khadri Kunhi (40), son of Kambalabettu Hasainar, were the three arrested.
Vitla police procured definite information that Isubu, a resident of Nekkare in Kambalabettu in Mudnoor in Vitla, had been illegally slaughtering cattle in a shed behind his home. On raiding the place, they found 85 kgs of beef, parts of cattle and a scooter used in transportation of the meat.
The police registered a case and began hunting for the prime accused in it, after which he surrendered. It is learnt that Isubu had been running an illegal slaughter house in Kadaba two years ago.
Cattle theft
In an unrelated incident, Raghavendra has logged a complaint to the police that a cow worth Rs 22,000 has been stolen from him on October 17 while it was tied by his house in Mallamar near NITK in Suratkal.
The locals in Suratkal have complained that theft of cattle had increased in the region in the past few days.
