Mangalore, October 31: An 'Eid get-together' was jointly organised by the Mangalore Corporation Unit of Jamiyyatul Falah (JF) and Shree Ganesha Seva Trust (SGST) at Saanidhya Residential School and Training Centre for the mentally challenged situated in Shaktinagar in Mangalore on Wednesday.

Delivering the Eid message, Khatheeb of Hawwa Jumma Masjid, Bolangady, Moulana Yahya Thangal Madani said that the holy Qur'an taught man to always help the orphaned, the poor and downtrodden classes of society.

“Helping others in need is the noblest deed of all. The holy-scripture also teaches us to live in unity, peace and harmony. We should not limit our festivals only to celebration. Following the spirit of Eid-ul-Adha, we should implement the principle of 'giving' and 'donating',” he said.

Stressing on the importance of donation and zakat, he said that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) had taught people to give others who were unable to do so, such as the poor and downtrodden. “A rich person should not show arrogance while distributing to his needy brothers. It is our duty along with namaz, to follow noble principles of lending a helping hand and showing gratitude to the creator,” he said.

Ameer of Jamiyyatul Falah NRCC Sheik Akthar said that it was the prime duty of every human being to serve humanity and help those needy brothers and neighbours who were economically backward. “If we truly learn the art of giving selflessly, then there will no poverty remaining in the entire world,” he said.

Speaking on the occasion, President of SGST Mahabala Marla said that in the coastal region of Karnataka, differently-abled children were being born at a higher rate. Mangalore being a place with educated lot, it looks like people do not find it necessary to learn and research about children being born this way. This matter should be deliberated upon and awareness should be brought among people, he opined.

Delivering the presidential address, president of JF (Mangalore) B S Mohammed Basheer said that along with service in the field of education, the organisation also worked towards better health in the society. It had provided four dialysis units to Fr Muller's Hospital where it could be used to treat economically backward patients for a lesser fee. Jamiyyatul Falah will also organise sports activities for students of Saanidhya in February, while a separate hostel for female students at Saanidhya is in the process of being constructed, he said.

President of Kanara Chamber of Commerce Mohammed Ameen said that as kids grew up, so did their needs and requirements. But children like these remain innocent till the end. The amount of patience and integrity among teachers and care-takers of these special children is highly appreciable, he said.

There were a couple of performances by children belonging to Saanidhya who aptly danced to folk tunes with delight and enthusiasm.

K S Sheikh Karnire, Althaf Katheeb, S M Basheer and Ashraf M A S were present on the occasion.

Secretary of SGST Vasanth Kumar Shetty welcomed the gathering, while secretary of JF (Mangalore) Mohammed Azeem proposed a vote of thanks. Haneef compered the programme.

Mangaluru: Public transport in Mangaluru is set for a state-led transformation as the government moves to deploy 100 new electric govt buses to replace unreliable private services. The initiative aims to provide a dependable alternative to private operators who have been frequently "cutting trips," leaving thousands of commuters stranded.

The announcement was made by Deputy Commissioner and MCC Administrator Darshan HV during a public phone-in session. The move specifically targets routes where private bus service has become erratic, ensuring that citizens no longer have to rely on a fluctuating private sector for their daily commute.

Restoring the Govt Presence

The transport crisis was brought to the forefront by Ramayya, a resident of Bajal, who highlighted a growing trend of private buses skipping morning and night trips. With the previous KSRTC (govt) services discontinued, residents have been left without a fallback option.

To fix this, the DC confirmed that the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme will bring 100 government-owned electric buses to the city:

•    Phased Deployment: The first 50 of the new 100 government buses are scheduled to arrive by March 2026.

•    State Infrastructure: Two new government depots, including one at Mudipu, are being prepared for operations.

•    Recruitment: The state has already begun training a new batch of government bus drivers to ensure the fleet is operational the moment it arrives.
