Mangalore, November 9: In an apparent bid to spoil communal harmony in the region, unknown miscreants have thrown a severed head of an animal on a road-side parapet built by Hindutva outfits at Farangipet on the outskirts of the city.
The members of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal, who on Friday morning noticed the severed cow-head on the parapet, resorted to protest demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits.
The agitators also staged road-block preventing movement of vehicle for a few minutes on national highway. The intervention of police prevented the exacerbation of the situation.
Meanwhile, saffron activists have threatened to intensify their agitation and stage protest in front of Bantwal Police Station if police failed to nab the culprits by evening.
The parapet was erected by the Kumdelu unit of VHP and BD recently. Police source said that the severed cow head in a plastic carry bag was kept on parapet.
It is learnt that miscreants had tried to trigger communal violence by placing such things on the same saffron parapet in the past too.
Police security has been tightened in the area following the incident.
The act of miscreants has drawn condemnation from local Masjid committee and Muslim residents too, who said that some anti-social elements were trying to spoil the peace in the area through such acts.
