Mangalore, November 11: India has the potential and resources to be self-sufficient in oil in the years to come, said M Veerappa Moily, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas.
He was speaking to media persons on the side-lines of a programme at World Konkani Centre at Shaktinagar, Mangalore, where the Konkani translation of his Kannada novel 'Tambare' was released.
Mr. Moily said that one of the reasons why Barack Obama has been re-elected as the President of the United States is because of his efforts to make US self-sufficient in oil. India also has the potential to be self-sufficient in oil the years to come, he said.
“With greater investment, attracting capital from outside, and implementation of newer technology, we can also be self-sufficient in oil. A road map is being prepared in this regard to see that it is done in a way that does not harm the environment. India has the resources for oil and gas. It is a wrong notion that we do not have natural resources. We have a stock of 4 trillion metric tonnes of coal”, he said.
On the upcoming Assembly elections, Mr. Moily said that voters will favour the Congress party with full majority. “Voters have seen the damage done by coalition governments. They will vote for a majority and for Congress”, he said.
Mr. Moily also said that another book of the same magnitude as the 'Ramayana Mahanveshnam' by name 'Yuga-vandhye Yaajnaseni' focusing on Draupadi's character would release soon. His book in English 'Quest for Justice', the fifth in the 'Unleashing India' series, is also in final stages of editing, he said.
