Mangalore, November 11: With the rise of Karnataka Janatha Party (KJP), the BJP has received a blow in terms of its preparations in the upcoming Assembly elections. But so far KJP has not had many takers in Dakshina Kannada district.
Dakshina Kannada, which BJP has strong hold of, has many admirers of Former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa. But not many have taken the step forward to be a part of KJP. Activists are not willing to accept Mr. Yeddyurappa and Dhananjay Kumar as their leaders, it is said. None of the leaders or activists from BJP in DK has given any statement in favour of KJP so far either.
Besides Dhananjay Kumar, the other leader from the region identifying himself with the KJP is former MLA Subbayya Shetty. A two time MLA from Congress, Mr. Shetty also had a stint with the JD(S) and has now joined the KJP faction.
It is said that Mr. Yeddyurappa has been trying to bring Shankutala Shetty of Puttur to his fold. It remains to be seen if she goes ahead and join the KJP.
A lot depends on Mr. Yeddyurappa's impact on BJP activists. But so far, no activists have shown interest in KJP. They are reportedly upset with Mr. Yeddyurappa's behaviour and dissidence after having played a major role in building the BJP in Karnataka and establishing the first BJP government in South India.
