Moodbidri, November 17: Suspected cattle thieves pelted stones at Ayyappa Mandir at Ontikatte, near here and menacingly threatened few devotees present there in the wee hour of Friday, sources said.
The miscreants who arrived at the spot in a Tata Sumo at 3 a.m. attempted to catch hold of cattle tethered in the temple premises.
Awakened by the noise, one Guruswamy Prashant Anchan came out to have a look and saw a couple of men trying to grab the cows. When he tried to raise the alarm, the men fled from the scene.
The miscreants returned to the spot after a while in the same vehicle and pelted stones at the temple.
It is said that one of them in the vehicle threatened the Ayyappa devotees with a lethal weapon and fled.
Prashant Anchan has lodged a complaint on the matter at Moodbidri police station.
A group of Hindutva activists also protested in front of the police station on Friday urging that the miscreants be nabbed.
