Bangalore, November 29: The National Investigating Agency is expected to take over the investigation of the bizarre case of 15 Muslim youths, who were arrested by Karnataka police in August on terror charges.

“The Union government directed the State government to hand over the case to the NIA a month ago through the Ministry of Home Affairs. The formalities of handing over the case are nearing completion and in all probability the NIA will take over the case from CCB in another 10 days,” a senior police officer handling the case said.

The NIA officials, who have also been simultaneously interrogating the arrested youth, will continue the probe in Bangalore.?They might take them to different locations, including Delhi, for further probe if needed.

“The CCB team will continue to be part of the investigation, along with the NIA,” Joint Commissioner of Police (East division crime) Dayananda said. It is not yet known if the NIA branch officers in Karnataka will head the probe or officers from Delhi will be assigned the responsibility.

Advocates for the arrested youth revealed that the Bangalore police did not have enough grounds for the arrests. The police acted hurriedly and were finding it difficult to prove their point, they said.

“We can't disclose the latest status of the investigation as it is a sensitive matter. The police can't comment on speculations. Those handling the case know the story very well. The police are working on some definite information,” Dayananda said.

When asked whether the police were confident of proving the case, he said: “We will definitely place before the court all evidences we have obtained so far.?It is up to the court to decide.”

“It has inter-state, national and security ramifications. The situation is too sensitive. Considering these points, the Central government has directed the NIA to take over. The Central government's decision itself means so much and justifies the police stand,” said Dayananda.

Meanwhile, the Interpol has issued a red corner notice to arrest three more youth- Usman Gani, Abdul Mazid and Shahid Faizal, all from Hubli, who are believed to be in Saudi Arabia.

Police teams of nearly 10 states have interrogated the youth in Bangalore, besides the?NIA. Currently, they have been kept in the high security cell in the Central Prisons, Parappana Agrahara.

The police arrested 11 of them on August 29 and four others a few days later. The police have six months' time to file the charge sheet and are hoping to do so by February next year.

Mangaluru: In a significant step to curb online hate and intimidation, Mangaluru City Police have registered a suo motu case against multiple Instagram accounts accused of circulating alleged provocative and threatening content.

While monitoring social media activity on Tuesday, Kankanady Town PSI Anitha Nikkam identified the Instagram handle ‘team_targetttt_900’ for posting a hate message alongside images of lethal weapons. Another account, ‘team_nagara_900’, allegedly shared a threatening post targeting activist Bharath Kumdelu, tagging additional pages such as KARAVALI-OFFICIAL.

Several other accounts — including ‘immu_bhai.fan’, ‘target_boy_900’, ‘kings_of_manglore’, ‘team_target_boys.900’, ‘arshad_mangalore’, ‘target_ka19_ullal’, ‘team_target__’, ‘troll_tigersz_900’, ‘tr_group_900’, and ‘team_target_900’ — are also under scrutiny for spreading similar inflammatory material, police said.

Authorities have urged citizens, especially young social media users, to report suspicious pages and avoid engaging with groups that glorify violence or threaten individuals. Online hate can quickly escalate into real-world harm, and police stress that sharing or promoting such content can attract legal consequences.

Mangaluru: Public transport in Mangaluru is set for a state-led transformation as the government moves to deploy 100 new electric govt buses to replace unreliable private services. The initiative aims to provide a dependable alternative to private operators who have been frequently "cutting trips," leaving thousands of commuters stranded.

The announcement was made by Deputy Commissioner and MCC Administrator Darshan HV during a public phone-in session. The move specifically targets routes where private bus service has become erratic, ensuring that citizens no longer have to rely on a fluctuating private sector for their daily commute.

Restoring the Govt Presence

The transport crisis was brought to the forefront by Ramayya, a resident of Bajal, who highlighted a growing trend of private buses skipping morning and night trips. With the previous KSRTC (govt) services discontinued, residents have been left without a fallback option.

To fix this, the DC confirmed that the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme will bring 100 government-owned electric buses to the city:

•    Phased Deployment: The first 50 of the new 100 government buses are scheduled to arrive by March 2026.

•    State Infrastructure: Two new government depots, including one at Mudipu, are being prepared for operations.

•    Recruitment: The state has already begun training a new batch of government bus drivers to ensure the fleet is operational the moment it arrives.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
