Mangalore, December 11: The demolition of a Hindu temple in Pakistan by a builder has triggered protest in the south India's portal city of Mangalore too.

The Mangalore unit of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal on Tuesday staged a protest in front of the office of deputy commissioner, here, condemning the demolition a century-old temple in the Pakistani city of Karachi.

Besides razing the pre-Partition Shri Rama Pir Mandir in Karachi's Soldier Bazar, the builder demolished several houses near it yesterday.

The protesters lashed out at the Pakistani government for not taking any action against those who hurriedly demolished the historical temple, while the Sindh High Court was still hearing a petition seeking a stay on such a move.

"They destroyed our 'mandir' and humiliated our gods. Now we must retaliate," said an angry protester.

The protesters also accused that the demolishers also have taken away gold jewellery and crowns that had adorned the statues inside the temple.

“The demolition of Hindu temple is a matter of deep pain and blatant atrocity against the spirit of religious tolerance” said one of the protesters.

Expressing solidarity with Pakistani Hindus, the agitators also urged the immediate reconstruction of the temple.
