Mangalore, December 22: Love for moolah can drive one to invent bizarre ways to acquire it. A city resident was arrested here on Sunday for faking the death of his wife to claim Rs 5 lakh insurance money.
The accused, identified as Shivaram Shenoy, a resident of KS Rao Road, in the city, planned this disgraceful act earlier this year with the help of others, police said.
The matter came to light after he went absconding. A case was registered in this regard with Mangalore North Police Station.
According to police sources, Shenoy claimed his wife Sumana's insurance amount 10 months ago by submitting her fake death certificate.
Shenoy was produced before a local court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
