Chikmagalur, December 26: Higher Education and Dakshina Kannada district-in-charge Minister C T Ravi has said that “political, religious and legal fight” would continue to free Datta Peeta.
Addressing presspersons after taking part in Shobha Yatra on Wednesday, he lamented that lot of injustice has been meted out at Hindus when it comes to Datta Peeta.
“We want Datta Peeta to be declared as Hindu peeta,” he said adding that Muslim brothers should voluntarily vacate the Dargas (tombs) at Baba Budangiri.
He said that all those who believe in the power of the Peeta, can take part in Datta Jayanthi celebrations.
“We have not invited anyone this year. Last year, the one who had taken part in Datta Jayanthi celebrations had become Chief Minister. Later, he forgot Peeta. The society will never accept anyone who makes false promises. Those who have forgotten Datta Peeta will not be in power for long,” he said hinting out at former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa.
“All grama devatas have taken part in Shobha Yatra for the first time in the history. The tradition will continued, to unite the people.” Bajrang Dal convener Sooryanarayana said that Datta Jayanthi is a programme organised by Bajrang Dal and Sangh Parivar. “We will not allow politics to enter into it,” he clarified.
Distribution of sarees as a part of Anusooya Jayanthi celebrations at the house of C T Ravi is a personal issue. It has nothing to do with the Sangh Parivar, he said.
Shobha Yatra
A colourful Shobha Yatra was taken out here on Wednesday, as part of the three-day Datta Jayanti celebrations. The yatra, which commenced at Kamadhenu Ganapathi temple, concluded at the Azad Park Circle after passing through the main thoroughfares of Chikmagalur.
The yatra passed through Basavanahalli Road, Hanumanthappa Circle, M G Road. The devotees wearing Datta Mala, saffron lungi, held saffron flag in their hand and sang bhajans. It was as if the City was bathed in saffron with cutouts, with flex, buntings, banners all over.
An idol of Dattatreya placed on a decorated vehicle was taken out in the procession. The devotees offered flowers, coconut throughout the procession. A tableux on nine 'grama devate' highlighting the history was added attraction.
They were followed by hundreds of saffron clad devotees dancing to the beat of drums.
The police were present in strength to ensure law and order.
Various cultural troupes including 'dollu kunitha' and 'veeragase' 'Veerabhadra kunitha,' chande, 'nadaswara,' 'hallivadya,' 'Somana kunitha,' 'Pooja Kunitha,' 'Bedara pade' and 'Goravara kunitha' enthralled the crowd that had gathered on either sides of the procession route.
In the fact, the people were standing on the top of the building on either side of the road, to get a clear glimpse of the yatra.
The turnout was very low last year. However, with the repair of Datta cave and installation of Datta Paduke this year, a large number of devotees from across the State had converged at Chikmagalur.
Security was beefed up Chikmagalur, to avoid any untoward incidents. The movement of vehicles on M G Road, Basabvanahalli road, Hanumanthappa Circle and K M Road were banned three hours prior to Shobha Yatra.
Higher Education Minisrer C T Ravi, Bajrang Dal National Convener Rajesh Pande, BJP Yuva Morcha State President V Sunil Kumar, Bajrang Dal state convener Sooryanarayana and others were present.
Prior to Shobha Yatra, Higher Education Minister C T Ravi and Sangh Parivar members collected 'Padi' from five houses.
