Mangalore, Jan 1: A total of 57 cricket teams from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts will compete with each other in Paradise Cricket Fest 2013, a six-day cricket tournament, organised by Paradise Club, Krishnapura, which will commence on Tuesday.

Announcing this at a press meet on Monday, President of Paradise Club and D K District Congress Minority Cell B A Mohidin Bava said that as many as 10,000 spectators are expected in the event which will be inaugurated by Former Sports Minister and All India Congress Committee General Secretary Oscar Fernandes at 6 p.m. Flood-lit matches will be held every evening for a period of six days beginning from 6 p.m. at the Paradise Club ground in Krishnapura. The semi-finals will be held on January 5, and the finals on the following day. A prize-money of Rs 1 lakh will be given to the winning team, and Rs 50,000 to the runners-up, during a formal prize distribution programme after the final match, he said.
He said that the event would begin on Tuesday with a friendly cricket match between his and MLA Ramanath Rai's team.
A total of Rs 35 lakh will be spent on the entire event. On the occasion, rice and sarees will be distributed to 2000 people and 500 women respectively, said Mr Bava.
