Mangalore, Jan 7: The Mangalore unit of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal held a demonstration against Andhra Pradesh MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office on Monday, condemning the derogatory remarks against a particular community in his inflammatory speech made last month at a town near Hyderabad.
The protestors said that the shallow language of the leader hurt the sentiments of a large number of Hindus who had shown him great hospitability. Such statements disrupt the peace and harmony in the society and divide the country along communal lines leading to communal unrest and violence. It is shameful that such speeches came from a responsible member of the Legislative Assembly, they said and demanded an unconditional public apology from the legislator along his immediate resignation.
As part of their demands, they pressed the AP state government and the central government to take strict action against the MLA for making such offensive remarks, failing which they would intensify their demonstration and resort to nation-wide protests.
The group of protestors also burnt an effigy of the MLA during the demonstration.
Secretary of VHP Mangalore Gopal Kuthar and convenor of Bajrang Dal Bhujanga Kulal were present during the protest.
The MLA has been booked for allegedly making a 'hate speech' against a particular community while addressing a public meeting at Nirmal town in Andhra Pradesh on December 24, and was scheduled to appear on Monday before police in connection with the case.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad police have claimed that they neither have first-hand evidence nor the necessary wherewithal to authenticate Akbaruddin's video floating on the internet. Now, investigators are left with no option apart from relying on eye-witnesses as the Adilabad and Nizamabad district police had not video-graphed the proceedings of the MIM convention.
