
Mangalore, Jan 8: A large number of students from of Mangalore University boycotted classes and took out a procession demonstrating at the campus seeking better security measures for girl students.
They demanded more security for women in light of the rape incidents in Delhi and across India.
Addressing the protesters, Hilson D'Souza, President of Students' Council said that the problems such as poor lighting facilities and inefficient security personnel, considering that the campus was spread over 335 acres, should be addressed by the administration.
Expressing grave concern over the alarming rise against women in the society, Nafeesa, a MCJ student demanded stringent punishment to the culprits.
Stringent punishment should be given to the guilty lest more women should become victims of the heinous crime, the protesters demanded and expressed condolence over the death of the Delhi gangrape victim.
Later, students submitted a memorandum to the Vice Chancellor Prof T C Shivshankara Murthy.
