The delegation submitted an appeal to the Vice-Chancellor asking him to look into the allegations of sexual harassment of PhD research students by professors of Kannada and Sociology departments.
Quoting media reports about the allegation leveled against two professors by dalit leaders at the monthly SC/ST grievance meeting held at the district SP's office last Sunday, the delegation urged the Vice-Chancellor to initiate an enquiry and terminate the professors if found to be guilty.
The activists requested Mr. Murthy to have an institutional mechanism in the university so that female students and staff in the campus can move without any fear of discrimination and harassment. In case of any attempt to sexually harass female staff or students, the heads of the departments concerned must be held responsible, the delegation appealed.
The Vice-Chancellor, prior to holding a closed door meeting with the activists on the issues raised, told media persons that he had not received any complaint against any Kannada or Sociology professor charging them of sexual harassment. After taking charge, there were couple of cases of sexual harassment that he had dealt with but there had not been any complaint on those lines ever since, he said.
