Mangalore, Jan 9: Three days after KMC Hospital fire mishap, a similar fire erupted at Fr Muller Hospital in the city on Tuesday.
However, timely action by the staff, who used fire extinguishers to douse the fire averted a major mishap.
The fire had originated due to a short circuit in the fuse box at the post operative ward of the hospital.
There were no casualties or injuries as the eight patients in the ward were shifted immediately.
Chief Fire Officer Varadarajan said that as the staff used powder based fire extinguisher instead of carbon dioxide, the powder was sucked by air conditioner running on back-up system in the post operative ward and contaminated the area.
The CFO also rued that the lack of civic sense from the public had caused them problems in getting to the scene of fire immediately.
The private buses do not give way nor do others realize the importance of giving way to fire engines which prevents us reaching the spot in time to minimize damage,'' he added.
