Mangalore, Jan 12: Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) conducted a road show in Mangalore on Saturday with the aim to increase tourist arrivals to Thailand. In 2011, Thailand received a total number of 9,16,787 Indian tourists, a growth of 20.57 per cent over the previous year and last year Thailand received a total number of 1016013 tourist arrivals from India, an increase of 11 per cent.
Through this programme, TAT aims at increasing awareness and educating the Indian traveller on Thailand's existing and new tourism products. It will focus on the different facets that Thailand has to offer — be it adventure, culture, wedding and honeymoon or MICE.
As a part of the strategy for 2013, the Tourism Authority of Thailand will be promoting newer regions such as Northern Thailand including Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Khao Yai along with attractions from South- Trang, Surat Thani and Koh Samui.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Phanom Kaributra - Executive Director of ASEAN, South Asia and South Pacific Region Department - TAT Bangkok said “2012 was a fruitful year for Thailand and while we are awaiting the final figures of total number of tourist arrivals, we are sure we have crossed the 1 million mark that we had set out to achieve. As on November 2012 we had seen an increase of 10.37% of tourist arrivals as compared to 2011. India is a very vast and significant market for Thailand. While we are happy to see the overall increase in tourist arrivals from India this year, we expect to up the numbers by reaching out to newer markets like Mangalore.”
Furthermore, TAT also plans to organise familiarization trips for trade as well as media focusing on medical tourism, wedding, golfing, biking & eco-tourism in Thailand.
Mr. Sethaphan Buddhani, Director, TAT Mumbai Office also added, “India's mass travellers come from the smaller pockets of the country and with the increasing travel spends of an average Indian, we see Mangalore as a market where we would like to expand and grow with”.
