Speaking on the occasion, Aboobakkar Kulai, Member of the party's district unit, said that he was fixed and put behind bars in a false case for a month by policemen at Mangalore (Rural) Police Station for the sole reason that he was a Muslim.
Naming ACP T R Jagannath, Inspector Ravish Nayak, ASI Seetharam, and Constable Melwyn Pinto, Mr. Kulai said that the officers were directly involved in fixing him in a false robbery case.
Describing the jail atmosphere, Mr. Kulai said that Hindu and Muslim prisoners are kept in separate blocks and there is clear difference in treatment given to the two sections. He further said that the police also tried to blackmail him and coax him to lie in the court.
Stating that the arrest has not deterred his focus from carrying out his activities as a SDPI member, Mr. Kulai said that he will in the coming days expose the wrong doings and wealth amassed by certain police officers through illegitimate means by seeking information under RTI.
The protestors demanded Police Commissioner Manish Kharbikar to take action against the officers concerned at the earliest.
