
Mangalore, Jan 15: The Fire Brigade doused a major fire that broke out in a two-storeyed building at KS Rao Road in the heart of the city on Tuesday evening.
The fire broke out at around 7:45 p.m. at 'Krishna Prasad' building located near Vishva Bhavan. A short circuit is suspected of having caused the fire.
The fire sent plumes of black smoke billowing over the building leading to panic among people on one of the busiest streets of the city.
According to officials there were 10 people including a child inside the office when the incident occurred. All of them were rescued by the fire-fighting personnel through window in a timely operation.
A fire personnel involved in the operation said that even though electric wiring and other household materials were gutted in the fire, there was no major structural damage to the building.
Three vehicles from fire department and two ambulances had rushed to spot.
The incident led to traffic chaos on K S Rao Road as large number of people had gathered outside the building.
