Mangalore, Jan 17: The second leg of the All India Relay Cycling Expedition organised by Airports Authority of India (AAI) from Thiruvananthapuram to Jammu was flagged off at Mangalore International Airport on the outskirts of the city on Thursday.
Cycling enthusiasts from AAI on their second leg from Mangalore to Goa are expected to reach their destination on January 22, after covering a distance of 365 kilometres. A team of six cyclists – K Vamsi Pradeep and Mukesh Kumar Meena from Vijayawada Airport, Siddanagouda R Patil from Hubli Airport, Arun Kumar Dixit from Rajahmundry Airport, Jayadev Achula and T S S N Aravind from Chennai Airport – will travel the distance to reach Dabolim Airport in Goa.
A different team of cyclists will carry on the journey from Goa towards Mumbai International Airport, and then to Baroda, Udaipur, Jaipur, Bikaner and expected to reach Jammu Airport by March 15.
The expedition will travel through the West coast of India and culminate in Jammu, covering a total distance of 3,825 kilometres, in three months.
The entire cycling rally, divided into nine legs, is being held in an effort to promote national integration in the country. The first leg of the rally, covering a distance of 620 kilometres from Thiruvananthapuram to Mangalore, was flagged off from its starting point on January 7.
Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district N Prakash flagged off the cycle rally in Mangalore on Thursday.
Airport Director of MIA J T Radhakrishna and Ex-Airport Director M R Vasudeva were present on the occasion.
