Mangalore, Jan 21: By the nature of his work it is evident that he might be finding it difficult to make his both ends meet. However, when Basavaraj (44), an auto rickshaw driver in the city found a gold bracelet worth Rs 50,000 in his auto, he took on himself the onus of returning it to its owner, thereby showing an example of righteousness and honesty.
Jacintha D'Silva had hired Basavaraju's auto to ply from Pinto's lane to Kadri. On the way somehow, Jacintha's bracelet fell off and having not realized the same, she got off from the auto at her destination. A next passenger who boarded the auto saw the bracelet and handed it over Basavaraju.
Honest and humble Basavaraju wound his day's work and waited at Pinto's lane for Jacintha to show up at the same location where she had boarded the auto. On seeing Jacintha, Basavaraju quizzed her about the jewellery. On being convinced that the bracelet was Jacintha's he handed over her belonging back.
Basavaraju hails from Badami and has been an auto driver in Mangalore for the past 25 years.
Kudos to this person who placed honesty over wealth.
