Mangalore, Jan 24: 'Jo Jo Laali', a short film on HIV/AIDS awareness made by film director Sandeep Malani, was screened on Wednesday at Roshni Nilaya School of Social Work.
The screening was organised by the Mangalore chapter of Alliance Francaise for its members and the general public free of cost.
The short feature film, featuring actress Kalpana Pandit, Akash Hora and child artiste Shrey Tejani, depicts a young dancer's tryst with love, rejection, motherhood and loss of her son to AIDS, and contains a strong social message at the end.
The director of the film, Sandeep Malani was present and interacted with the audience after the screening.
He said that the film had been shot in Mumbai and had won six awards so far.
Kalpana Pandit won the best actor at the National Academy of Cinema and Television – South Indian Short Film Festival held in Bangalore. Kalpana is an emergency physician-turned-film actress, from Mysore.
The movie won the award for best child actor (Shrey Tejani) at the Gujarat Film Festival. It won the best story and music direction (Salil Choudhary) at the Imphal Film Festival, and also bagged an award at a Children's Film Festival.
The 40-minute film has also been screened at AIDS Conferences in Hyderabad, Atlanta, Georgia and Washington, said Mr Malani.
