Mangalore, Jan 25: While the Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah's office published a press release that he would resume work on January 28, Congress veteran leader B Janardhan Poojary announced a reward of Rs 5,000 for whoever gives him information on the whereabouts of the Speaker within four hours.
Speaking at a press conference here on Friday, the former Union Minister said that it was the first time in the history of Karnataka that the Speaker of the assembly has gone 'missing' without any prior intimation.
“It is sad that the government and even the CM are not aware of his whereabouts. Looking at his behaviour and conduct, we are forced to question his competency for the post. He has lowered the sanctity of the post. This is a mere ploy to retain the government in power. However, there is no point in it,” he said, announcing a reward for the person who comes forward with the speaker's whereabouts within the next four hours.
Poojary said that though Bopaiah had issued a statement (in a release from his office) that he would resume work from Monday, he should appear before the media in person.
Responding to the nation-wide protests against the 'saffron terror' remarks made by Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, he said that the protests itself garnered wide publicity to the BJP.
“The BJP should have chosen to ignore his remarks if they were smart. What the home minister said has been substantiated before. Did the BJP leaders not visit the Samjhauta case accused in jail? Did they condemn the Samjhauta tragedy or urge the accused to be punished? Are the BJP leaders not creating fear by making provocative speeches during the protests? Their agenda is to mainly create fear,” he claimed.
