Mangalore, Jan 26: The nation needs to remain alert and defeat terrorist forces fanned by religious fanaticism which are plotting to destroy the country, said C T Ravi, District-in-charge minister, Dakshina Kannada.
Delivering the Republic Day address after hoisting the national flag at the formal programme held at Nehru Maidan on Saturday, Mr. Ravi emphasized on the need to tackle terrorism and religious extremism.
“Republic Day is a celebration of India's unity in diversity. Even after 65 years, India continues to remain united, something which the British and thinkers around the world thought is not possible. However, there are certain forces that cannot stand our unity and are constantly trying to harm the nation in the form of terrorism and naxalism, trying to create division among us. It was because of religious forces that the tragic partition of the country took place. Even today, terrorism fanned by religious sentiments is being used to harm our nation. We must be alert and defeat these forces”, the Minister said.
Elaborating on the history and significance of the formation of Indian Constitution, Mr. Ravi said that Dr. B R Ambedkar, the man who played a key role in drafting the Constitution of the country, had stated that the contents of the Constitution do not make it good or bad. The way Constitution is implemented by people determines its efficiency.
The Minister was given a guard of honour by police, fire service, NCC and other contingents. Students and achievers from various fields were honoured on the occasion as well.
Yogish Bhat, Deputy Speaker, Karnataka Legislative Assembly, U T Khader, MLA, N Prakash, Deputy Commissioner, DK, Abhishek Goyal, SP, DK, K Dayananda, Additional DC, DK, were present among others.
