Speaking on the occasion, Inspector-General of Police (Western Range) C H Pratap Reddy said that in the present day, it was a huge challenge to exercise our creative expression, as there was less tolerance among people in the society.
“We are at a stage today, where we have to think twice before encouraging creativity, be it in writing, creating art or making films, since it may spark outrage. Years ago, there was a time when there was scope of reading and healthy debate followed, whereas now, the level of tolerance and an inclusive debate that needs to take place in society are being seen less and less. We need to ensure an informed debate in the society and encourage healthy forms of opinion and tolerance, and also ensure that peace and tranquillity is taken forward,” he said.
He said that in the era of globalisation where traditions are almost non-existent, we ought to retain our rich cultural heritage and pass it on to our future generations. It is becoming a challenge for us to retain our rich cultural diversity, which is slowly turning into a rare quality. Today, our rich heritage, language and culture are at a stage where they run the risk of disappearing altogether. We all need to ensure that we recognise the sacrifice and contribution to the rich forms of cultural heritage by the stalwarts and carry it forward, he said.
Bishop of Bellary Dr Henry D'Souza delivered the presidential address.
Director of Sandesha Fr Victor Vijay Lobo welcomed the gathering and trustee Galdin D'Souza proposed a vote of thanks.
