Mangalore, Feb 5: Members of Akhila Bharathiya Vidyarthi Parishat (ABVP) staged a protest at Basaweshwara circle in the city on Monday demanding stern action against the drug mafia. Students also formed a human chain to mark their protest.

Addressing the protesters, ABVP state secretary Ramesh K said that the drug mafia will be a black mark on Dakshina Kannada which has developed as education hub.

“It seems that sophisticated network of anti social elements are working behind this mafia. Not only college students, but even highschool students get drugs easily,” he said.

Ramesh also demanded the district administration to convene a meeting of student leaders, college authorities, public representatives and police officials to chalk out further steps to be taken to check this social menace.

ABVP City Coordinating Secretary Vinay Horatti questioned the police for failing to crack down on drug mafia in Mangalore. He demanded a special team of police to deal with drug mafia and wanted to keep a hawk-eye on pubs and homestays in the city,

A memorandum was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner. ABVP City Deputy Co-ordinating Secretary Hithesh was present.
