Mangalore, Feb 8: NRIs from west coast of India working in Kingdom Saudi Arabia have expressed their gratitude to Udupi-Chikmagalur MP K Jayaprakash Hegde for his role in materializing the long pending dream of establishing direct aviation link between Mangalore and Saudi Arabia.
As soon as Coastaldigest.com published the report on Air India Express' announcement of starting direct flight operation between Mangalore and Dammam, the capital of Saudi Arabia's eastern province earlier this week, comments from NRI readers poured in appreciating the effort of Mr Hegde.
It could be recalled here that with the help of feasibility report prepared by Coastaldigest.com, Mr Hegde had pressurised the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation to give green signal to airlines to connect Karnataka's port city directly with the Kingdom.
Meanwhile, Mr Hegde has promised Coastaldigest.com to continue working towards connecting Mangalore with two other prominent airports of Saudi Arabia, i.e., Riyadh and Jeddah.
Overwhelmed by the response of Indian expatriates in Saudi Arabia, Mr Hegde has also expressed his willingness to visit Saudi Arabia through first direct flight to Dammam, which is expected to take off from Mangalore Airport on April 3.
