Education can vanquish poverty, ill-health too'

Manipal, Feb 10: “Education field is a very valuable asset of the country. By imparting quality education in the institutions of learning not only illiteracy can be eradicated but even ill-health and poverty can be vanquished” opined Prof. Dr. V. Surendra Shetty, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Manipal University.

He was addressing the fresh graduates on the graduation day ceremony of Shree Devi Group of Institutions held on Friday at T.V. Raman Pai Convention Centre, Mangalore.

However, he lamented over the fact that Indian universities are not up to the mark when compared to universities in the western countries. Later, he presented the scroll of honour to the graduates and congratulated them.

Registrar of Yenepoya University Dr. Janardhan Konaje said that the success of students is largely attributed to the unstinting efforts of the teachers, ably supported by the sacrifice, hard work and encouragement of the parents. Later he wished the graduates a very bright future in their profession.

Chairman of Shree Devi Education Trust Sri A. Sadananda Shetty in his presidential address said that owing to the standard of education imparted in their institutions the students are registering good results.

Dr. Jagadish Kamath, Dr. Bibiana Vijay, Dr. Vijay declared their respective college students as graduates. Dr. Vijay administered the oath taking ceremony to the 250 graduates. Lamp lighting ceremony of 50 first year B.Sc. nursing students was also held.
