Kasargod, Feb 16: The summer showers that lashed the Kasargod district from early morning on Friday provided some respite from the sweltering weather.
The sky had remained overcast since Thursday evening and it started drizzling early on Friday morning. The rain, accompanied by lightning, picked up momentum by 10 a.m. and continued well past 1 p.m.
The rain came as a blessing to the farmers as standing crops were under threat of withering due to water shortage.
However, the areca and coconut farmers had to make hasty arrangements to cover the farm produce that had been kept in the open for drying, K. Balaraman Nair, a farmer in Parappa block panchayat, said.
