Panambur, Feb 17: The unilateral move of New Mangalore Port Trust of removing the attendance register of the employees to make way for RFID system (fingerprint identification) sparked disappointment among the employees who manifested their discontentment by remaining absent on duty, on Saturday.

The employees said that they had no objection to the usage of RFID system but before bringing in such a system, the Trust must first look into various demands of the employees and try to fulfill it.

They alleged the management of failing to provide even basic facilities to the employees, which includes drinking water inside the wharf, canteen facility, medical coverage and overtime pay. All of these demands, the employees say was kept before the management in 2009 itself, which has not yet been met.

INTUC Leader N M Adyanthaya said that the management instead of fulfilling necessary demands of the employees has been wasting money on unnecessary things.
