Mangalore, Feb 20: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials arrested yet another passenger for trying to smuggle gold.
Abdul Ghani who was allegedly smuggling 300 grams of gold is the second person from Bhatkal to be arrested, the first one was arrested on February 16, just four days ago.
Ghani, who landed at Mangalore International Airport from Jet Airways Dubai flight early Wednesday morning, was intercepted by the officials. He was found to have concealed gold ornaments in a oats container.
He was arrested for violation of Section 135 (possession of or is in any way concerned in carrying, removing, depositing, harbouring, keeping, concealing, selling or purchasing or in any other manner dealing with any goods which he knows are liable to confiscation) of the Customs Act.
He has been remanded to judicial custody till March 6.
