Speaking at a press conference here on Thursday, president of the association Mohammed Ali said that the notice received on Feb 21 from the DC office had informed the school's management of the requirement of 18 rooms for preparation of the upcoming urban local body elections, training and staff and ballot box counting after the elections. The notice said that the rooms will be required for a period of 14 days during which the school will have to be shut down. This will hamper the studies of the students, especially those in Class 10.
"The school management wrote to the DC the very next day explaining the circumstances and requesting for an alternative. But there has been no response from the DC till date. For the sake of the elections to be held on March 7, the entire institution has to be closed, which will incapacitate the school to conduct preparatory exams to be held from March 4," he said adding that there are various administrative buildings which could be used for the same purpose instead of utilising a school campus. “On behalf of the teachers, we want the district administration to atleast provide the school with an alternative building in order to conduct preparatory exams for Class 10 students. If the district administration does not pay heed to our request, we may have to take up a protest in the coming days,” he said.

Speaking to Coastaldigest.com, headmaster of Rosario High School Aloysius D'Souza said that a memorandum had been sent to the Deputy Commissioner on Feb 22, but there had been no response so far.
“However, Assistant Commissioner Dr Venkatesh assured the school management committee that the 18 rooms of the institute would be required only for five days altogether – three days from March 5 for providing election training to administrative staff members and an additional two days on March 11 and 12 for counting of votes. He said that only four rooms would be required for the rest of the days, during which it was not required for the school to remain closed,” he said.
