Mangalore, Mar 3: Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has demanded a probe against Governor H R Bharadwaj, as accusations of Raj Bhavan agents indulging in bribes involving crores of rupees to appoint Vice Chancellors of Universities are doing rounds.
Addressing media persons at Press Club in Mangalore on Saturday, Ramesh K, State Secretary, ABVP, said that Uday Singh, a Davanagere University Syndicate member has alleged recently that crores of rupees flood Raj Bhavan in matters concerning appointment of University Vice-Chancellors.
“MLC Dr. P V Krishna Bhat and several other MLCs have raised the issue of Raj Bhavan agents demanding Rs. 6 crore from every person for the appointment of Vice-Chancellor at a University. Who is the force behind all these demands? The Governor must also be subjected to probe. The President of India must order an enquiry against Governor H R Bharadwaj”, Mr. Ramesh said.
ABVP also condemns the decision of the state government to enact a separate 'Karnataka Private Universities Act', Mr. Ramesh said, while stating that it will only encourage more private parties to mint money in the name of education.
“ABVP is not against allowing private universities to come up. But what are the criteria used by the government to give green signal for such universities? This move will only help more private universities do business in the name of education and exploit students”, he said.
Mr. Ramesh also pointed out that in spite of four persons taking charge as Minister for Higher Education in the current term of the BJP government, none of them had taken action against Dr. Saeeda Akhthar of Women's University, Dr. Shashidhar Prasad of Mysore University, Dr. Maheshwarappa of VTU and A S Prabhakaran, retired Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, in spite of committees submitting their enquiry reports against them.
A statewide protest to urge action with regard to all these issues will be held on March 4, Mr. Ramesh said.
