H D Kumarswamy, Former Chief Minister and JD(S) State President, had declared that Mr. Shetty would be the party's MLA candidate for Assembly polls four months agoduring his visit to Mangalore. Ever since, the JD(S) party which was largely inactive earlier, has rejuvenated in a lot of ways now. Activity at booth level has gained momentum. Mr. Shetty opened a party office for election campaign at Falnir a couple of months ago and later followed it up with offices at ward levels too.
The JD(S) had won just one seat in the last MCC elections. This time though, it is confident of making a better impact owing to the anti-BJP wave and the disorganised approach of the Congress party whatever gains the JD(S) makes out of these elections, the heat would majorly be felt by the Congress.
The likes of Rohan Monteiro, Ivan D'Souza, Suresh Ballal and Arun Coelho are reportedly lobbying for an election ticket in the Assembly polls. It is typical of Congress to conceal the candidature details till the very last minute, thereby disappointing party activists.
The JD(S) on the other hand made an open declaration of Mr. Shetty's candidature well in advance, chalking out its election plan rather clearly. The JD(S) cadre is being strengthened and a sense of excitement is being felt in party circles. Observers feel the JD(S) is very much in with a chance to spring up some surprises in Assembly poll results in DK.
