Mangalore, Mar 10: Commemorating the 54th anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising Day and pressing for a Tibet free from Chinese repression, Tibetan students and youth residing in and around Mangalore city took out a peaceful rally on Sunday.
Dressed in black, over hundred youth held the Tibetan flag high as they participated in the 'solidarity rally' held under the ageis of Tibetan Youth Congress. The rally was taken out from Bejai to Nehru Maidan, demanding United Nations and the international society to raise the Tibet issue. Although few in number, their anguish was apparent as they moved forward in the rally.
Speaking before the rally, organiser of the rally Sherab Gyaltsen from Tibetan Youth Congress said that all supporters stood in solidarity with Tibet, on the anniversary of the 1959 rebellion against Communist China's repression in Tibet.
“The land of Tibet is occupied by Chinese dictatorship power and Tibetans living in Tibet are denied of their rights and freedom and are brutally tortured. Thousands of Tibetans are cruelly brought to death by starvation and inhumane persecution. Even today, Tibetans inside Tibet are heavily repressed and their freedom of speech and movement is constantly confiscated. Today, we are paying tribute to the courageous patriots of Tibet who have sacrificed their lives and prosperity for the cause of Tibet. We also express our solidarity and appreciation to those brave ones who continue to suffer and experience immense difficulties under brutal suppression and imprisonment,” he said, demanding for a free Tibet. He also wished for return of the Dalai Lama to Tibet.
The youth held a gathering at Nehru Maidan, following the solidarity rally. Few Indian students too joined them to support their cause.
