According to the sources in the railways, the authorities in Secunderabad received a call from an unidentified person stating that a live bomb had been planted on the train. The railway authorities in Secunderabad immediately alerted their counterparts in Hubli who subsequently halted the train at Gadag station.
The bomb squad and sniffer dogs were immediately pressed into service and the passengers were also asked to alight from the train as a precautionary measure.
The authorities inspected the train to detect the bomb, however, after two rounds of inspection it was confirmed that it was a hoax bomb call. The news brought some relief to passengers.
Train no. 16591 was headed to Bangalore from Hubli via Guntkal.
The train departed from Hubli station at 6 p.m. on Sunday.
It was detained at 7.10 p.m. at Gadag station.
Only after it was confirmed that the train was safe for travel did the authorities allow the train to depart from Gadag at 9 p.m.
