Mangalore, Mar 14: Proper exposure to socialization process along with moral education in formative years are the important factors help in maintaining harmony and peace in the society, said Ashit Mohan Prasad, ADGP (Crime and Technical Services), Karnataka.
He was speaking after inaugurating a two-day UGC Sponsored National Conference on 'Psychology for Enhancing Happiness, Harmony and Peace”, organized by the Department of Psychology, St Agnes College, Mangalore and Internal Yoga Satsanga, in Mangalore on Thursday.
Lack of moral education is one of the main reasons for increase in crime against women and weaker sections, Mr. Prasad said. Recalling his experience of meeting a militant teenager, Mr. Prasad said that the boy had expressed his desire to quit terrorist activities and lead a normal life as he had fallen in love with a girl. Love had changed him as a person and an innate human desire had triggered a reform process within him, Mr. Prasad said emphasizing on the need for proper socialization process and moral education
Mr.Prasad had a word of advice for fellow police personnel. He asked them to accept changes and move in the direction of the society so that they do not remain in conflict with the society.
Dr. B M Hegde, former Vice-Chancellor of Manipal University, said in his keynote address that hatred for others not only pollutes the society but also results in diseases within oneself as human body cells get in conflict with one another because of anger and feeling of hatred. Dr. Hegde advised students to do things for the sake of happiness they can derive by doing it and not for material benefits or fame.
Dr. Sr. Prem D'Souza, Principal, St Agnes College, Elsie Therian, HOD, Psychology, Dr. V Premanand, Organising Secretary of the Conference, were among those present.
