Mr. Bhat no longer enjoys the goodwill of Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat, the influential RSS man who has a say in such matters. Mr. Bhat has turned to Former Union Minister and senior BJP leader Ananth Kumar to help him get the coveted Assembly ticket. Mr. Kumar's intervention is his only hope. Or else, Mr. Bhat's joining of KJP is only a matter of time, says BJP sources.
The BJP leadership is believed to have already decided not to give Mr. Bhat another opportunity to contest Assembly polls owing to the mysterious death case of his wife Padmapriya and Malpe rave party issues. Mr. Bhat is said to have developed hatred for the BJP leadership to such an extent that if denied a ticket, his sole aim would be to defeat BJP in the polls, even if it means victory for the Congress.
The Udupi constituency ticket is likely to be handed over either to Suprasad Shetty, President of Udupi District unit of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, or Uday Kumar Shetty, President, BJP, Udupi District. If Mr. Bhat is persisted with, the Padmapriya issue could be used as a strong weapon for campaigning by the Congress and hence, chances of Mr. Bhat being given the ticket are very remote, it is said.
