Mangalore, Mar 23: Rejecting the allegations made by the Congress party that people have not been able to build houses in 3-5 cents of land under the BJP led Mangalore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) administration, S Ramesh, Chairman of MUDA said that the allegations can be billed as  'bogus' and a 'lie'.  Following consultations with legal experts and seniors in the BJP, it has been decided to drag the Congress to the court for the false propaganda against MUDA, Mr. Ramesh said.

Addressing media persons at a news conference in Mangalore on Saturday, Mr. Ramesh said that the advertisement issued by Congress during campaigning for ULB polls claiming that BJP led MUDA administration tortured the poor by denying licenses to construct houses in 3-5 cents of land is far from truth.

“The cut off limit to grant license is 1.33 cents i.e. 54 sq.mts. But we have even considered special cases and granted licenses to poor wanting to construct houses on 1 cent of land as well. We have disposed off 3,324 single site files in the year 2012-13 alone and 9,327 files in our tenure beginning from 2009-10. There are hardly about 10-15 files pending mainly due to technical reasons. The propaganda carried out by the Congress that poor have not received licenses to construct houses in 3-5 cents of land is an utter lie”, Mr. Ramesh said.

The MUDA Chairman said that it was during Congress tenure that the 15 per cent fee was imposed on single site constructions. “After we took over, we reduced the fee to 5 per cent for 6-9 cents of land and retained 15 per cent fee only for sites above 12 cents”, he said. All files are being disposed off within 15 days of inspection, Mr. Ramesh further claimed.

N Yogish Bhat, Deputy Speaker, Karnataka Legislative Assembly, Monappa Bhandary, MLC, were also present.
