Members of the media fraternity flanked Mr. Soorinje immediately after his release from Mangalore Central Prison to congratulate and greet him. Mr. Soorinje was released on bail on a surety of Rs. 5 lakhs.
Although charges against Mr. Soorinje were the same as those slapped against the miscreants who carried out the attacks, the statement of Vijay Kumar, one of the victims of the attack, in favour of Mr. Soorinje, helped him get the bail under differential circumstances.
The other accused, including another media person Sharan, continue to be in prison.
Speaking on the occasion, Muneer Katipalla, DYFI President, said that Mr. Soorinje's release is a victory of upright journalism and secularism.
Vijay Kumar also congratulated Mr. Soorinje on the occasion.
