Mangalore, March 24: Devotees in Mangalore made their way to churches to attend mass on the occasion of Palm Sunday, which falls on the Sunday before the feast of Easter.
In many churches, it is observed by the distribution of palm leaves to the assembled worshippers in light of the importance of this occasion.
"Palm Sunday is like a glimpse of Easter. It's a little bit joyful after being solemn during the month of Lent when the devoted give up certain food items for the entire month", says a devout reveller.
On this day, the faithful carry a branch of blessed Palm to commemorate Jesus' celebratory entry into Jerusalem. It is a special occasion for the Christians, who observe this day with triumph and a joyous note.
In ancient times, palm branches symbolized goodness and victory. The Bible reveals that when Jesus entered Jerusalem, the crowds greeted him by waving palm branches and covering his path with palm branches.
Many worshippers were seen assembled in churches with palm branches clasped in their hands, and awaiting the arrival of Easter.
