Sullia, Mar 25: Despite being the majority community of the country, Hindus do not enjoy protection and security in Indian society, lamented Hindu Jagarana Vedike (HJV) State convener Jagadish Karanth.
Delivering the keynote address at a massive convention organised by HJV Samajothsava Samiti at Sampaje near here, he said that even though Hindus do not object Muslims living in this country, any oppression on the culture, rituals and beliefs of the Hindu community would not be tolerated.
Offering his blessings to the gathering, Shri Rajashekharananda Swami of Vajradehi Mutt said that Hinduism could be strengthened only when the entire Hindu community would become united. The Hindu society has teetered today as a result of vote-bank politics, and it is our responsibility to protect it. We have to unify keeping aside our castes and internal feuds, he said,
Samajothsava Samiti president Dr D V Leeladhar welcomed and made the introductory remarks. Vinay Kumar Kandadka compered the event.
Honorary president Rajaram Keelar, principal organiser Subramanya Upadhyaya, general secretary K P Jagadish, treasurer Balachandra Kalagi and others were present.
Prior to the convention, a massive procession was undertaken from Kallugundi to the maidan.
