Addressing mediapersons at a press conference, president of Billawara Sanghatanegala Ekeekarana Samithi (Billawa Organisations Unification Committee) M Seetharam said that Naveenchandra Suvarna, who had been running the Union from the past 37 years, imposed his monopoly in the affairs of the Union.
Instead of keeping with the norm of holding the annual meeting of the Union in the premises of Shree Gokarnanatheshwara temple, it was convened by Mr Suvarna in the premises of Narayana Guru College without the presence of bonafide members of the Union.
No information or notice was issued or communicated to the actual representatives. Although there are as many as 4000 members in the Union, it is handled by the self-proclaimed president and his followers as though it is his family asset, he complained.
“Inspite of this, when people gathered at the annual meeting that was held a day after Mahashivaratri on March 11, actual representatives such as Ravishankar Mijar, B P Diwakar and me were dismissed from the Union over baseless allegations, citing false reasons, without giving us a chance to justify oourselves,” said Mr Seetharam, strongly opposing the behavior of Naveenchandra Suvarna.
Such a rift between leaders of the same community will prove to be a hindrance in the unification of Billawas under one organisation.
Leaders of the community such as Ravishankar Mijar, B P Diwakar, Eshwar Salian, Dinesh Anchan, Purushottham Poojary, Aithappa Poojary and others were present.
